I love a glass of wine regardless of the season, but once summer rolls around I feel compelled up my game to include sangria in the rotation. Bright, light, fruity sangria. But I always have a hard time branching out to try new things and tend to stick to the same one or two recipes I know by heart. I have an even harder time making sure that I have all the ingredients I need on hand.

I can't tell you how many times I've gotten a craving and then searched my house only to discover I'm missing a key ingredient or two. You know what makes this whole problem easier? Bundaberg Brewed Drinks.

When I was approached to do a sponsored post with Bundaberg Brewed Drinks, I was thrilled to try their products and share my experience with you all. I was intrigued because their flavored sparkling fruit drinks come in these bold, distinctive (and dare I say, adorable) glass stubby bottles. They have eight different flavors and they're all non-alcoholic, which makes them the perfect base for my ever-necessary summer sangria ingredient stockpile.

I have a variety of flavors at home now, but my taste buds were immediately drawn to the Bundaberg Blood Orange and I knew exactly what I wanted to do with it. Well, aside from what glass I wanted to serve it in. I spent at least 20 minutes weighing the pros and cons of all my different glassware options (sadly, I'm not joking).

Choosing the right glass

I eventually settled on my large wine glasses because I knew I could load it up with my sangria and still have plenty of room for ice, fresh orange slices and pomegranate arils. I'd been trying to find a purpose for the pomegranate in my fridge, and it paired perfectly with this drink.

Anyway, back to the plan. Are you ready for it? Okay, here we go – try not to get too overwhelmed:

  • Pour Bundaberg Blood Orange in a pitcher.
  • Add a dry white wine, brandy, grenadine and orange slices.
  • Stir it and serve it.

I know. That was pretty intense. I'm going to give you a minute to catch your breath. 

Clearly, I'm being sarcastic. The Bundaberg Blood Orange made it SO EASY. There's none of that struggle of only using part of a bottle of some syrupy soft drink (that – let's be honest – you probably didn't want anyway), or the time and effort to make your own fruity simple syrup.

In fact, they're not just saving us time – they're making the process fun! Okay, okay – hear me out. You'll notice on the bottle that it instructs you to “Invert bottle before opening”, and the cap says “Pull out then up”.

These two steps are the secret to unlocking the flavor of your Bundaberg brew: flip the bottle over for a few seconds, and then pop open the rip-cap top. You'll hear that super satisfying sound of a freshly opened sparkling drink, where the real ingredients have been released and infused into the drink. They call it their “Flip, Rip and Sip” ritual and I am totally on board. It made me feel all fancy schmancy, and I realized that every time I do it I wiggle my hips on each action. Flip [hip to the left], rip [hip to the right], sip [wiggle].

Ain't no shame in my game.

This is so easy to whip up for you and a friend on a whim, but it would be just as easy to make a big batch for a party! You could even enlist some of your guests to help you flip, rip and sip! And you can try to do it in unison! And you could get someone to make a video of it to throw on Instagram!

Not that I've thought about doing that at my upcoming summer party or anything.

Instructions

  • In a pitcher, combine orange slices, Bundaberg Blood Orange, white wine, brandy and grenadine. Stir gently to combine.
    1 orange
    1 bottle Bundaberg Blood Orange
    4 ounces (113 ⅖ g) dry white wine
    2 ounces (56 ⅔ g) brandy
    Splash of grenadine
  • Fill two glasses with ice cubes and fill with sangria.
  • Add a handful of pomegranate arils to each and garnish with orange slices. Serve immediately and enjoy!
