This week was a week where things finally feel like they might be turning around for the better. Things have been rough for a while now, and this week had a handful of nice moments that I’m thankful for. And while there is a puppy in this post, it’s NOT my own. That’s a first. Let’s dive in!
On Saturday morning, I remembered a post I had seen by Kate of The Small Things Blog recently about Danish Æbleskiver and had the uncontrollable urge to make them. They’re a nice mix between a German Pancake and a crepe, and they’re delicious. I haven’t made them in years, so it took me a batch or so to get back into the swing of things. They’re fluffy balls of powdered sugary deliciousness. Yes, that’s the scientific definition.
Sunday was Easter with the boyfriend’s family, and I brought a Bunny Cake for the occasion. I heard about this Bunny Cake nonsense recently for the first time, and – of course – had to try it for myself. I think it turned out pretty well! I do a recipe post on it soon. I named him Fluffy Bunny (and he was delicious) – look how cute he is!
Monday was the best day of the week by far – Marathon Monday. It was the first Boston Marathon since last year’s tragedy, and the boyfriend was part of the military group that marched the route. Beautiful weather, extremely happy and excited volunteers and spectators along the route, and enough of a breeze to keep him cool. 26.2 miles in uniform amounted to a little over 6 hours (!) and a very tired and sore boyfriend. Everyone and their mom was stopping him after the marathon to thank him for his service and ask him about his experience on the course. So proud of him. You can even spot him in this video of the elite men’s winner heading down Boylston around the 0:15 mark on the left hand side 🙂
It was Wrigley Field’s 100th birthday on Wednesday, and I found out that they were passing out birthday cupcakes (made by my former employer in high school, Jewel-Osco, thank you very much) to people at the day’s game. SO JEALOUS. So since I wasn’t at the field to celebrate with all my fellow Cubs fans, I decided to make my own cupcakes. They turned out less… clean… that I had wanted, but that’s what I get for adding a little too much milk to the frosting and being too tired to fix it. They still tasted delicious. Omnomnomnom.

On Thursday, my friend and coworker brought in her 15-week old puppy, Nixie, to visit us and brighten our day. It feels like it’s been forever since Penny was that size, so I took full advantage of it and stole her away as much as I could. Check my Instagram for more pictures of the fluffy event.
