I’m pretty sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I’m not a yogurt person. I don’t like the smell, the taste, the texture… so really, there’s nothing I like about it. Yogurt works out well as a substitute for butter or oil in baking, but that’s the extent of my interaction with it.
When Elli Quark reached out to me to try their product, I’ll admit I was skeptical. I’d never heard of the company before (which I suppose makes sense as a non-yogurt fan) and I wasn’t really looking to find a yogurt substitute in my life. And then I checked out their site. It’s gorgeous. It’s clean, bright, and colorful. That alone roped me into learning more! Quark (pronounced “kvark”, for you non-German speaking types) is a fresh, creamy-style cheese that is popular in Europe, and is just recently making its way to the States (I did a quick search on Elli Quark’s locator and it seems to only be available at Whole Foods in New England at this time).
Here’s how they describe their product:
“Elli Quark is a spoonable fresh cheese with a creamy texture similar to Greek yogurt, but with a richer, less sour taste. It also has a better protein-to-carb ratio than Greek yogurt, with high protein and no added sugars or artificial sweeteners.”

Needless to say, they have a lot to boast about! I was convinced – I had to at least try it. So I coordinated a shipment of their product with a lovely woman named Kimberly and a week later it arrived on my doorstep! There were twelve 6 ounce containers of different flavors stacked neatly in two layers inside an insulated box.
Everything was still completely cold, even though it had been outside in 70 degree weather for at least 6 hours – that’s a win! Not gonna lie – I was a little worried about that.
Did I mention the packaging is made of 100% recyclable materials? And the gel packs are reusable? Another win!
It also came with a great little folded booklet with nutritional information and a list of the flavors included. One of the flavors is Red Velvet, so obviously I started with that because… Red Velvet. It was slightly pink, but not in an artificial way – which I love. It’s definitely reminiscent of Greek Yogurt, but certainly not the same. Think Greek Yogurt, but less potent and better for you.
I’m going to be completely honest – I din’t see myself sitting down and eating a container as a snack. It’s probably because of the texture (I have a real thing about texture). But! I added some mini chocolate chips and I ate it right up. I let a few of my coworkers try it out and they loved it. So it’s definitely just me who is a freak of nature who can’t enjoy delicious things.
Even though it’s personally not my favorite snack, I very much appreciate the product for what it is. And I would absolutely recommend this to any and everyone I know.
