Everyone has a time where they think to themselves, “Maybe I should go on a diet.” But to be honest, I couldn’t diet to save my life (I suppose that’s pretty literal) – I love food entirely too much. As you may have noticed, I don’t make a huge effort to make my recipes “healthy”, although sometimes that happens as a happy coincidence. To be fair, I do use reduced fat, fat free, low calorie options when they’re available, so I supposed I’m not as terrible for your health as I may think.
Personally, the only way I can keep my weight manageable and still eat the volume that I do is by “food swapping”. And no, I’m not talking about the events where community members share their homemade foods with each other as a sort of giant potluck.
The food swapping I’m talking about is when you make the conscious decision to swap out a food/meal with a healthier alternative. And honestly, you’d be surprised at how often you do this without putting a lot of thought into it. You might choose turkey sausage over regular sausage, or skim milk over whole milk.
BuzzFeed published a post yesterday titled “26 Food Swaps To Make You Healthier” and it made me feel good to know that I’m doing a bunch of these already! The best part? Bacon is one of the suggested alternatives. And we know how much I love bacon.
