Things haven’t been awesome lately.
They’ve been stressful, tasking, draining (mentally, emotionally, physically, you name it) and did I mention stressful? People have been horrible to one another and to me, and I’ve gotten really tired of it. There are so few people left in my life that don’t treat others like garbage and unfortunately I spend a lot of time being polite to people who deserve it the least. And financially things have been rough, which never helps anything.
So due to the financial strain, I rarely go out and buy lunch while I’m at work. I either make something at home and bring it in, or I munch on the snacks in my desk drawer (which is basically down to sunflower seeds and a jar of peanut butter).
But today I forgot to bring in my leftover zucchini lasagna, and counted that I had $5 in change in my car, so I went to the store and used the CoinStar machine to turn that into cash. I decided to go to a local sandwich shop and get whatever I could for $5 or less, and would eat half and bring the other half home for dinner tonight.
I walked into the shop and got into line. I’m standing there checking out the menu, realizing all I could get was a 6-inch sandwich for what I had, and I felt a little disappointed because that meant I had half-of-a-half sandwich to bring home… but then I remembered I do have leftover lasagna, so I could eat that (if the boyfriend hasn’t inhaled all of it yet!).
As I’m standing there, this guy walks over to me and hands me a piece of paper and says, “Here – this already has the code filled out on it.” I look at it and it’s the part of the receipt where some businesses tell you take a survey online and then write in the code the site gives you for money off your next order. This one was for $2 off.
I was kind of taken aback, so I said, “Wow, uh…thank you!” and he just nodded and walked away. With that $2 off, I was able to get the full-sized sandwich and have half leftover for dinner. Thank you random stranger!
