My name is Leslie and I’m a stress baker. [group in monotone] “Hi, Leslie”.
As my good friend Presh says, I’m “forever seeking the balance between life’s salty and sweet moments”. Originally from Chicago, I found my way to New England and decided to stick around for a while. I live and work in MetroWest Boston, and make as many trips to Cape Elizabeth, Maine as I can. P.S.: You should, too – hit up The Lobster Shack and then try to tell me it’s not amazing. I dare you.
Aaaaaanyway. I’m extremely sarcastic (surprise!) and I constantly crave deep dish pizza, Chicago Italian beef, lobster and ice cream. My pantry is consistently overflowing with flours, sugars, chocolate and sprinkles. The amount of powdered sugar and mascarpone cheese I purchase on a regular basis should be criminal.
My life has always been relatively high-stress, and one day I realized that baking really helped soothed the beast inside of me. The vigorous whipping of frosting, crushing of peppermint, and the oh-so-delicate placement of cupcake toppings all help me channel my anxiety into a constructive (and delicious) place. I’m completely self-taught, and seek inspiration in my daily life. I see a pretty drink at a restaurant and immediately start brainstorming ways to turn that into a baked good. Sometimes it works wonderfully, and sometimes it fails miserably. For now, I only share with you the victories. Maybe someday I’ll start a series of “Pinterest fail” type posts to show you some behind the scenes disasters. You can laugh at my expense and appreciate the reminder that my life is is no way Instagram-perfect.
Fair warning: If you’re looking for healthy recipes, you should probably look elsewhere. That’s not to say that I don’t make anything healthy at all, or that I make food that’s going to kill you – but this site has more than its fair share of sugar. You’ve been warned.I haven’t yet figured out what I want to do with my life – maybe a series of cookbooks… maybe a bakery… maybe record videos myself sitting on my kitchen floor, drunk on a German Riesling while I eat bowls of batter become a viral train wreck YouTube sensation. Who knows! The possibilities are endless. In the meantime, I’ll just keep posting recipes and adding some more sugar to your lives.
