Chocolate Drizzled Chips. Today’s recipe post hardly needs instructions. In fact, I can hardly call it a “recipe”. Just two ingredients that form a magical junk food duo without any baking: Potato chips and chocolate. What’s even better is that you can use whatever chips and chocolate you want! Rippled + dark chocolate. Pringles + milk chocolate. Rippled + Pringles + dark chocolate + milk chocolate + white chocolate. The possibilities are endless, my friends.
It seems like everyone is coming out with their own version of chocolate covered chips, most recently Lay’s. Clearly they know what they’re doing in the industry, but I don’t see eye to eye with them when it comes to the kind of chocolate they went with… milk chocolate. It’s not that I’m opposed to milk chocolate. Milk chocolate never talked smack about my mama or insulted my shoes. It’s just that when it comes to the salty + sweet combo, I need dark chocolate. I’m told they created a dark chocolate counterpart, but I’ve never seen them with my own two eyes. So in the meantime, I’ll go ahead and make my own.
I prefer to drizzle the chocolate onto the chips rather than dip the chips in the chocolate for a few reasons. First of all, it’s easier. Secondly, I like the ratio of chocolate to chip better. And thirdly, it’s easier. Wait… I said that already. Well, it’s true. It’s just easier. Drizzle > dip. I’m serious. So. Easy. They’d be the perfect snack for your Super Bowl party because you could prepare them so quickly and still have plenty of time to paint your face in your favorite team’s colors.
Alright, that was a lot of words for such a simple “recipe”. Here’s what you do:
1) Lay your chips in a single layer on a baking sheet (or any flat surface, really) covered in parchment paper.
2) Melt some chocolate (in a microwave or in a double boiler) – I absolutely adore using Ghiradelli Dark Melting Wafers. They melt very quickly and evenly, and they harden after drizzling even faster. And that means that I get to eat my food faster. Omnomnom.
3) Place your melted chocolate in a pastry bag or plastic baggie with a tiny hole cut in the corner and drizzle the chocolate onto the chips to your heart’s content. Feeling crazy? After the chocolate has hardened on the chips, flip them over and cover the other side with chocolate, too. Look at you go.
That’s it. You’re done. Go make them, and then eat them. Share if you’re feeling generous. Don’t share if you’re more like me.
