First of all, I’ve been a bad blogger lately. But I have a good excuse – I was planning my vacation! The boyfriend and I have been stalking travel sites for months, and we finally found the perfect spot. I mean it. Perfect.
The winning locale is Hotel on the Cay on a private island in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands. Yes – private island. See that picture above? See that gorgeous small island on the left side of the shot? That’s where we’ll be for 8 days and nights with a room with a view of the ocean. It is an island with nothing on it but this adorable family-run resort. And you know what I want to do? Nothing. I want to lay in the sun, get a tan, and drink fruity drinks with my toes in the sand.
I’m fairly confident I don’t know how to relax, so this will be an interesting experiment of how my personality interacts with the island atmosphere. But then I look at things like this live webcam of the boardwalk and I start thinking maybe it won’t be as hard as I think it will be. In my research I also found that I am evidently more likely to be attacked by a donkey in the Virgin Islands that I am to be attacked by a shark. So… there’s that.
It’s a 2-minute ferry ride to the mainland where I’ve already found a long list of restaurants that I just have to try. For example….
Just look at it – gorgeous! And in looking at the menu (in which everything looks delicious) I saw that they have Bacon Wrapped Double Cut Pork Chop. So… that’s happening. This will likely be a nice date night locale where I’ll get all fancy for once.
There are plenty of others, including a bar where you can feed pigs (non-alcoholic) beer and a local brewpub that has crab races. I don’t know what the hell those are, but I’m pretty sure I have to see it.
We also plan to visit the Cruzan Rum distillery in Frederiksted. The boyfriend’s been a longtime fan of their rums, so this is going to be a pretty cool stop on the trip for him.
Needless to say, I’m pretty excited about the whole trip… except for the flight. I am not a fan of flying. Or flying over the ocean. However, I do like JetBlue so taking this trip through them makes me feel a little better about it. There will likely be a fair amount of Dramamine involved to get me there and back.
Have you ever been to St. Croix? I’d love to hear your tips and recommendations!
